Ornately woven spider lilies & cherry blossoms upon a brocaded Mamian Qun 马面裙 (horse faced skirt) from the great Ming Dynasty!

The horse faced skirt gets its name from its construction, similar to old war forts that were also called Mamian 马面 (horse face). The name stuck around due to its ease to wear while horseback riding.

The construction of the mamian qun 马面裙 contains 2 large front and back panels showcasing the art on the skirt, and many trapezoidal pleats on the sides. This creates a very flattering A-line silhouette without needing any petticoat!

Pair with any variety of Ming Dynasty tops and outerwear for a classic 17th century ensemble, or pair with your favorite sweaters for a unique modern outfit.
